ASTM subcommittee approves TCLP test method for glassware

The ASTM C21.03 Ceramic Whitewares and Environmental Issues Subcommittee has voted to approve a test method for application of the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) test to glass. The method was developed by Ceram Research for SGCDpro, and the full ASTM Ceramic Whitewares Committee (C21) will now review the method for final ASTM approval.

SGCDpro staff continues to work with the Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse (TPCH) to gain an extension beyond January 1, 2005 of the glass packaging exemption from model rules that ban the use of Lead or Cadmium in packaging. TPCH members had requested that SGCDpro work to establish a standardized method for grinding glass for TCLP testing. For more details, contact Andy Bopp, 703-838-2810.
