Fifteen new Proposition 65 notices filed for glass and ceramicware sold at retail

March 2005

Fifteen additional Proposition 65 notices were filed in California on March 10 alleging exposure to lead from the outside surface of ceramic mugs and containers, stemware and other glassware.  The companies named are primarily retailers, although a major tableware marketer was also named.

As previously reported, about 70 Proposition 65 notices have been filed since the August 31, 2004 settlement between a group of manufacturers, importers, retailers and the plaintiff concerning allegations of lead exposure and decorated glass and ceramicware.  The plaintiff filing the new notices was also involved in the cases that settled on August 31.  These new allegations, however, are not part of that settlement.

Andy Bopp, SGCDpro's public affairs director, and Jim Calderwood, SGCDpro's general counsel, will review Proposition 65 developments during SGCDpro's seminar program in Orlando on Monday, April 4.  Contact Andy Bopp if you have any questions, 703-838-2810.
